The tempora series, had a little bit of thought behind it. It may be a stretch, but see if you can follow along. 1.) The life of a painting is directly tied to the lives of those whom view it. 2.) Life is precious and beautiful because of it’s fragility. 3.) Life would lose it’s precious beauty if it were ever to lose it’s fragility. 4.) The more fragile a life, the more precious and beautiful it is. Therefore, if a painting, discovered with scraps, will not last long (compared to more archival paintings) it should be more beautiful. Maybe a bit of a stretch, but I like how they turned out. (Note to self, by putting them online, they survive forever, thwarted…)
The subject matter of the piece directly reflects on those whom view it. Perhaps a modern twist on the olden images will help with the condemned feeling.
An exploration in the significance of surface.
Drawing is practice. And, so, I practice drawing. Here are a few of my more successful drawings with ink. All we completed in less than five minutes. The figural references in these are fairly obvious. I have a lot of fun seeing what comes out in these fast exercises. The goal in their creation is an exploration into the fluidity and the free motion of ink, and it’s variable simplified and implied forms.
